The Ogden International School of Chicago's Announcements

Updated July 27 , 2010

  • Thank you to the parents/guardians and other friends who donated to the Friends of Ogden Teacher Fund. The Kindergarten Fund currently has $80,000 and the Grades 1-5 Fund has $40,000. The Board of Education recently approved some changes that will restore the positions that were cut last month, including the restoration of a second kindergarten teacher. Based on the current enrollment of kindergarten students and the restoration of a second position, we will apply the $80,000 to ensure that kindergarten for ALL students is full day (8:55-3:30) and three sections will be guaranteed for the 2010-2011 academic year. Therefore, all donations will be deposited on Friday, August 5th to guarantee the teacher can be hired prior to the first day of school. Once deposited, refunds, under any circumstance, will not be allowed. Phone calls are being made by the school to informing parents that kindergarten will be full day and the checks will be deposited.

Since the positions for grades 1-5 have been restored, we will not deposit the donations from the Grades 1-5 Teacher Fund, unless the donor indicates otherwise. All checks will be shredded by the school unless you choose to make the donation or set a time to pick up the check. Phone calls are being made by the school to inform donors of this change.

Chicago Public Schools continues to face a financial crisis and programs and other resources continue to be cut and/or reduced. Additional donations made through the Friends of Ogden Teacher Fund will help assist with the purchase of instructional materials for our students. The cost of K-5 instructional materials for reading and math only is over $40,000 with a total K-10 budget for instructional materials set at $72,000. This leaves just a little over $32,000 for purchasing materials for other subjects at grades K-5 and essential materials for grades 6-10.
  • The West Campus is closed for the summer.
  • All incoming high school students (freshman and sophmore) who have not officially registered at the school must do so and complete course selection on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Ogden East Campus.
  • All high school students can receive their 2010 - 2011 class program on Wednesday, August 18th from 10 a.m. - 12 noon and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Any outstanding fees including the $250 2010-2011 supply fee must be paid before obtaining the class schedule.
  • Classes resume Tuesday, September 7, 2010
  • New Student Registration
    Tuesday, August 17, 2010 - 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.; 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
    Thursday, August 19, 2010 - 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.; 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
  • We've raised $70,000 for full day kindergarten. In total, we will need to raise at least $100,000 for full day and a minimum of $150,000 (possibly $200,000 depending on the total class size) to reduce class size and full day. Still a long way to go. We are unsure about the changes and impact of the new, revised budget that has yet to be released by CPS. The deadline for donations for Kindergarten has been extended to Thursday, July 14, 2010. The $750 donations for 1st - 5th grades has raised $50,000. Until the new CPS budget is released and we are certain of our funding, checks will not be cashed.
